The holiday season is about so much more than eating good food and spending time with friends and family. It’s also about giving back and making the community around us better than we found it. If you don’t have the time to volunteer but still want to contribute financially, there are a number of organizations in Grand Rapids worth supporting. In this blog, we highlight three of our favorites.
1.) Michele’s Rescue. Michele’s Rescue is a no-kill shelter that accepts homeless animals from all over the country. Founded in 1997, Michele’s Rescue focuses on working with cats and dogs that are scheduled for euthanasia. Before adopting out any animals, the shelter vaccinates, microchips and spays/neuters. They also test and treat for ticks, fleas and heartworm. If you love your furry family members, consider making a donation here.
2.) Grand Rapids Community Foundation. The Grand Rapids Community Foundation was established in 1922, making it Michigan’s oldest community foundation. The Foundation works to better the lives of community members through educational grants and scholarships and also works to solve long-term community problems including hunger and homelessness. You can make a donation here.
3.) Kids Food Basket. Thousands of Michigan children go to bed hungry every night. Kids Food Basket works to solve this heartbreaking problem by providing local children and their families access to healthy, nourishing meals both at school and home. Even better? The organization works with local farmers whenever possible, striving to provide food that is homegrown. You can make a donation to Kids Food Basket by clicking here.
